Never Feels Like Home Brian Sendrowitz

Here’s a track from an acoustic record i put out in 2004.  I just put the album up on bandcamp if you’d like to check it out.  Its a pretty mellow/moody album.  I started Beat Radio pretty soon after as sort of a reaction to no one really taking notice to it.  I set out to write pop songs that were more universal, accessible, and melodic.  Still I’m really proud of this album.  It represented the execution of a sound I’d been working towards for several years leading up to it.  I felt like it was a creative coming of age in a lot of ways.  I needed to prove to myself i could make a record like this before moving on to other things.

don't tell me (madonna cover) beat radio

As part of our Kickstarter campaign to press the Vinyl for Golden Age, we offered to record a cover song - whatever song our backer wanted.  Wendy and Chris Duby were generous enough to commission this track, and we’re super grateful to them.  Chris is Evan’s brother, and the truth is when we found out he had selected that reward, we were sure he was going to ask us to record the most ridiculous and challenging song possible.  Something embarrassing, all in good fun.  It took a while to come up with the song, but once he did, I was pretty excited and relieved.  I love alot of Madonna’s music, and this song has always been one of my faves.  So here you go - this is a cover song commissioned by Wendy and Chris, which feels more like a dare than anything else.  We had alot of fun recording it.  It’s fairly ridiculous, and has the dubious distinction of being the first Beat Radio recording ever to feature the human beat box.

Nico - These Days

I’ve always loved this song, and especially the way the guitar sounds. I first heard it like most of us in the movie The Royal Tenenbaums, but i’d also recommend seeking out Nico’s Chelsea Girl LP.  It’s got some great tracks.
