“Beth/Rest” by Bon Iver // from the forthcoming album, Bon Iver
I’m loving this new sound so much. It’s got a slowed down Avalon-era Roxy Music chillness with some Steve Winwood style instrumentation. I know that sounds absolutely fucked, but it’s really not. No one is making music like this anymore. It sounds simultaneously like Bon Iver and also like the music my mom used to play when I was really young. It feels so familiar, but not. It feels like home. I think I’ll be staying with this album for quite a while.
(Don’t forget to pre-order the new disc and or catch the group on their summer tour.)
amazing, thanks!!
Nothing like an all nighter with some Beat Radio.

Like, listen to “Beth/Rest.” People keep mentioning how it sounds like Bruce Hornsby. It reminds me more of those weird Amy Grant Christian songs they used to play on the television in my high school homeroom. But whatever, it’s still totally excellent.
I guess that notion of pushing things in an extreme direction, and seeing how much you get away with, has always been interesting to me. I remember feeling that way alot when i was recording Safe Inside the Sound. I like the challenge of taking something that’s corny or even cliche - but somehow getting away with it. You have to rely on your instincts, and believe in your own authenticity as an artist.
So, hats off to Justin Vernon. I’ve listened through 3 or 4 times now, it’s another great record.
